    3 day Shanghai Expo admission tickets and metro travel card will be arranged for you.

    As part of the Shanghai Expo's "Better City, Better Life" initiative, public transportation is the preferred mode of transportation to/from the Shanghai Expo. We will arrange for an English Speaking guide to meet you at the hotel and escort you to the Shanghai Expo by the Metro on the first day.

    Fly to Xian [B,L,D]
    Fly to Xian and transfer to the hotel.
  • Day 6
    Terra Cotta Museum, Big Wild Good Pagoda & Banpo Museum [B,L,D]
    Visit the historic city of Xian, home of the Terracotta Museum.

    The remainder of the day will be spent at the famous Big Wild Goose Pagoda and
    Banpo Museum.
  • Day 7
    Yangtze River Cruise [B,L,D]
    Travel from Xian to Chongqing by air, and transfer from the Chongqing airport to the pier where you will hop on the Yangtze River Cruise for a 3-night stay.

    The Yangtze River is the third longest river in the world.
  • Day 8
    Yangtze River Cruise [B,L,D]
    Enjoy the Yangtze River Cruise with a shore excursion to Fengdu, Shibaozhai or Wanzhou.*

    Continue to set sail on the Yangtze River Cruise to the scenic Three Gorges region in the Yangtze River - Qutang Gorge, Wu Gorge.

    The ship docks for an excursion to Daning River Small Gorges or Shennong Stream.*

    On the final day of the cruise, visit the Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest hydroelectric river dam.

    In the afternoon, disembark from Yichang and transfer to the airport where you'll board a flight to Beijing. Transfer to the Beijing hotel.

    Take a grand tour of China's capital city - Beijing. From the Tiananmen Square,
    Forbidden City to the Temple of Heaven, the day will be a culture and history lesson for travelers.

    Return to Hong Kong [B]

It will be the first World Exposition to entertain the theme of "Better City, Better Life" where they will explore new approaches to human habitat, lifestyle and working conditions in the new century.

Xian

Terracotta Tour

Terracotta Tour

Silently standing guard for over 2 millennia, the life-size army of Xian's Terracotta warriors and horses is the most significant archeological excavation of the 20th century.

 

The construction of this mausoleum began in 246 BC, when Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of China, ascended the throne. In 1974, local farmers near the Xian, Shaanxi province discovered the Terracotta figures.

North Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda

North Square of Big Wild Goose Pagoda

One of Xian's most famous landmarks, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda was completed in AD 652 to house the Buddhist sutras brought back from India by the monk Xuan Zang.

 

Just north of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, is the biggest Tang-culture square composed of waterscape fountains, gardens and impressive large-scale sculptures.

Banpo Museum

Banpo Museum

The Banpo Museum, located just east of Xian at the base of the Banpo excavation site, houses a fascinating collection of artifacts from this very early settlement of a Neolithic matriarchal community dating back about 6,000 years.

 

Chongqing

Excursion: Fengdu

Fengdu

On the northern bank of the Yangtze River, Fengdu is about 107 miles from Chongqing and 296 miles form Yichang. With over 2000 years of history, Fengdu County is known as the resting place for the spirits of the dead.

Excursion: Shibaozhai

Shibaozhai

Shibaozhai, which literally translates to Stone Treasure Fortress, is located in Zhong County at the south bank of the Yangtze River. First built in 1750 during the Qing Dynasty, Shiboazhai has dramatically transformed its appearance throughout the years.

 

Most notable is the 12 story wooden architecture that stands on the riverside. Each of the 12 floors has been dedicated to a famous general of The Three Kingdoms and contains cultural artifacts, paintings and sculptures.

Excursion: Wanzhou

Wanzhou

Wangzhou means "myriad-prefecture" and signifies the the point where both a myriad of rivers meet and where traders gather. Because of the Three Gorges Dam construction, nearly 47% of the Wanzhou's old urban areas will be underwater by the time the reservoir is filled.

Qutang Gorge

Qutang Gorge

Qutang Gorge is the smallest, but the most majestic of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River. The gorge begins at Baidi City and winds its way down to Daxi Town in Wushan Country. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to take in many of the gorges' most scenic spots.

Wu Gorge

Wu Gorge

Also known as Da Xia or Large Gorge, the Wu Gorge is the second of the Three Gorges. It is most famous for it serene elegance.

 

Covering over 25 miles, it starts at the Daning River (just east of Wushan) and ends at Guandukou in Badong (Hubei provinence).

A very important tributary in the Three Gorges Reservoir, The Daning River is famous for its scenery and its crystal clear waters. Sailing down this picturesque river, you'll be awe inspired by its beauty and serene atmosphere.

Shennong Stream

Shennong Stream is another tributary on the Yangtze River that flows swiftly from north to south through the deep gorges. As you cruise along the zigzagging watercourse, you'll be able to take in the mysterious and unique culture that lies along bank.

Three Gorges Dam

Three Gorges Dam

The famous Three Gorges Dam spans the Yangtze River in Sandouping, and is the world's largest electricity-generating plant of any kind. The dam was recently completed in 2006, but all the originally planned dam components was not completed until 2008.

The Temple of Heaven was built in 1420 during the Ming Dynasty for Emperors to worship Heaven and to solemnly pray for good harvest. True to its sacred purpose, the Temple of Heaven was designed to reflect the mystical cosmological laws believed to be rooted in workings of the universe.

The Great Wall

The Great Wall

Spanning 3,700 miles across China, The Great Wall is a genuine masterpiece of engineering and architecture.

 

This impressive brick and earth structure dates back to the Ming dynasty, when the wall was built to defend against Mongol forces to the North. The Great Wall stands 26 feet tall and 23 feet wide at the base.

The Royal Mausoleum of Ming comprises of mausoleums for 13 emperors of the Ming Dynasty and 7 tombs for the imperial concubines. Built in 1409, this complex took more than 200 years to build.

Begin the tour at the popular Victoria Peak, where stunning views of Hong Kong's skyline, the world-famous Victoria Harbor and peaceful green hillsides await you. Afterwards, take a sampan (water taxi) ride at Aberdeen harbor, home to traditional fishermen living on fishing junks.

Pricing

  1. Prices are per person and quoted in U.S. dollars. Price includes all air transportation (includes taxes and fuel surcharges), land transportation, hotel accommodations, sightseeing, admissions, meals (as listed in itinerary B-Breakfast, L-Lunch, D-Dinner, meals will be provided at designated local restaurants), tour guides services and travel insurance.

 

Hotel Accommodations

  1. The accommodations listed with the tours are intended to be used with each tour. If changes become necessary for any reason, the accommodations substituted will be equivalent in standard to those shown. Unless requested otherwise, a non-smoking room will be requested on your behalf.

 

Tickets and Payments

  1. To ensure air and hotel availability, we suggest you book your trip as far in advance as possible and at least 120 days in advance.
  2. A non-refundable deposit of $500 per person is required at time of booking confirmation. Final payment is due 120 days prior to departure date. If Cathay Pacific does not receive final payment by this date, Cathay Pacific reserves the right to cancel the reservations without notice.
  3. Reservations must be made 120 days prior to departure. For reservations made less than 120 days before departure, payment in full is required upon booking confirmation.
  4. A copy of each traveler's valid passport will be required by our tour sales staff at time of booking.

 

Change Fees

  1. For changes made beyond 120 days, a change fee of $200 per occurrence will be charged for any alteration or revision made (i.e.: name change, travel date change) to a reservation once the deposit is paid.
  2. For changes made within 120 days of departure date, the booking will be treated as a cancellation and the cancellation policy applies. Please refer to Cancellation Fees #1 outlined below.
  3. Cathay Pacific promises to make every effort to operate all tours as advertised. We reserve the right to alter or curtail the itinerary, or substitute sightseeing, hotels, and/or conveyances as deemed necessary. Any savings realized by these changes will not be refunded to passengers. Any resultant added expense will be covered by Cathay Pacific. Although not expected, prices on this website may be modified due to unexpected significant external factors not forecasted at the time of printing.

 

Cancellation Fees

  1. Cancellation policy within 120 days of departure:
    • 120-91 days prior to departure; 30% of total price
    • 90-61 days prior to departures, 50% of total price
    • 60-45 days prior to departure, 80% of total price
    • 44 days or less prior to departure, 100% of total price.
    1. Please note, a change of traveler's name, date or itinerary within 120 days of departure date will be treated as a cancellation and the above cancellation policy will apply.
    2. No refund if for any reason guests do not participate in sections of the tour. No exception is allowed.

 

Personal Expenses

  1. The following are not included in the tour prices: meals not specified in the itinerary, charges for passports, visas, vaccinations and inoculations, excess baggage, telephone, laundry, items of a personal nature, incidental charges in hotels, and any items not specifically listed as included.

 

Visa and Travel Documents

  1. Passengers are responsible for obtaining the necessary visas to enter China. Passengers must also make sure that their passport has a sufficient remaining validity period for entry into the countries being entered or transited.
  2. Clients must provide identification in the form of a passport at the time of airport check-in. Your passport name must match the name on your tour reservation and airline ticket or you may be denied boarding.

 

International and Chinese Domestic Air Transportation

  1. Air transportation from North America to/from Hong Kong is serviced by Cathay Pacific. Air transportation from Hong Kong to/from Mainland China are serviced by Cathay Pacific's sister airline, Dragonair or Cathay Pacific except Hong Kong to Xian, serviced by China Eastern Airlines. Air transportation within China (between Beijing, Shangri-La, Kunming, Shanghai, Xian) is serviced by Mainland Chinese carriers.

Tour Guides

  1. All tour guides are carefully selected, fluent in English and have many years of experience. They are all professionals licensed by the China Tourist Board not just for their language skills, but also for their knowledge of the geographical areas they will be serving. Our tour guides' wealth of information, friendliness, and enthusiasm earn them the highest praise from our guests.
  2. The name and contact information of the tour guide will be provided in the itinerary voucher after confirmation of your trip. Tour guide will have a Cathay Pacific China Experience badge.
  3. The tour guides listed on your itinerary are scheduled to provide service as planned. If changes become necessary for any reason, a tour guide of equivalent knowledge and service quality will be substituted and informed upon arrival at your destination.

 

Holiday and Museum Closures

  1. Museum visits and personal shopping time may be disrupted due to unforeseen circumstances or the many religious, state and local holidays locally observed. China celebrates The Labor Day festival on May-1 for one week and The National Day festival on October 1 for one week. During these extended holidays, travelers to China will encounter large crowds and some inconvenience.

 

Photography of Tour

  1. Occasionally, Cathay Pacific may use photographs taken by fellow guests or our tour guide for promotional purposes. If you prefer that your photo not be used in any marketing activities, please notify your tour guide at the start of your tour.

 

Gratuities

  1. Gratuities for the local guides and drivers are not included, and are at the guest's discretion. Gratuities are not included in the tour price. Suggested gratuity for tour guide is US$5-$10 per person per day and for driver is US$3-$5 per person per day.
  2. All appropriate gratuities for luggage handling, bellman, doorman, housekeepers, tour guides, and local crew are not included in the price of the tours.

 

Travel Insurance

  1. All tour package price includes a comprehensive insurance coverage for your peace of mind. Please find the following coverage highlights:

    • Overseas medical expenses coverage up to USD57,700
    • Personal accident benefit up to USD64,100 (for age under 16 and age over 80 is USD12,800).
